Prominent Business Leader Joins University of Adelaide Council

Business and retail leader John Charlton has been announced as the newest member of the University of Adelaide Council.

Mr Charlton has been involved in the retail business most of his working life being the founder, owner and managing director of Spendless Shoes Pty Ltd for over 30 years.

He is currently a director of Lovisa Holdings Ltd (an ASX listed company) and a non-executive director of the Detmold Group Advisory Board.

Mr Charlton has served on Wilderness School Council for 12 years (seven years as Chair) and St Peter’s College Council for five years.

He has been a member of the University of Adelaide Finance Committee since 2015.

“I am honoured to join the University Council and look forward to contributing to the success of the University,” Mr Charlton said.

“The University is dedicated to outstanding teaching, learning and research in the advancement of learning and knowledge.”

Mr Charlton has been appointed to Council for a period of two years. He will continue to serve on the Council’s Finance Committee
