PSPS Women PG College organizes MUN on ‘Issues of Climate Change’
JAMMU : The Department of Political Science, in collaboration with IQAC of Padma Shri Padma Sachdev Government P.G. College for Women, Gandhi Nagar Jammu, organized a ‘Model United Nation’ (MUN) on the topic ‘Issues of Climate Change.’
Dr. Pooja Charak (HOD Political Science) warmly welcomed the college Principal, Prof. Minu Mahajan, chief guest, Prof. Baljit Singh (HOD Political Science, Jammu University) teachers and students.
She highlighted the importance of MUN activity and how it helps students to get more aware about inter- relations among different countries and diplomacy related to United Nations on an international level. She also highlighted the adverse effects of climate change on different countries which was topic for the event.
The MUN activity was held under the patronage of worthy College Principal, Prof. Minu Mahajan. She motivated the participants to showcase their talent, skills, confidence and creative vision by initiating their activity in an organized manner and present effectively as delegates of various countries. She also highlighted the effects of climate change on global level and immediate need to address such issues . Around 40 students participated in this activity and presented their respective countries as its delegates. The whole MUN event was performed by students in an orderly, effective and an impressive manner.
Anchor, Jasmeen Kour welcomed the participants and the MUN event thus began. The Chair body of MUN was being presided over by Meliha and Vice -chair by Anshika. Delegates of over 18 countries took part in this conference, namely Delegates of Canada ( Mahroash , Ayushi ), Delegates of USA (Muskan ,Shanky ), Delegates of Russia (Joyleen, Aditi ), Ukraine (Aastha, Nirdosh ),China (Arsla, Manvi), India (Sujagya, Santoshi) Denmark (Pretti), Germany (Nittu), Pakistan ( Salwa ,Asmat ), Brazil (Shabnam ),Japan (Bharti,Sakshi Verma), Maldives (Shakshi, Vidushi), UK (Arushee, Saneha), Italy (Anshita, Nazia), France (Khushali), Philippines (Kashish ,Simrandeep), South Africa (Sonali) and Saudi Arabia (Nazma). The delegates of all these countries highlighted their efforts to curb climate change and also made the council aware about adverse effect of climate changes their countries are facing. Media representatives (Himani, Janvi) also interviewed the delegates of various countries to share their experiences and get feedback.
The MUN conference ended with passing of a resolution by the President of the Conference on issues of climate change. At last, the participants highlighted the importance of MUN, role of United Nations and significance of such conferences organized on an international platform. Students of 2nd and 4th semester of political science also attended the event as delegates of different countries. Around 500 students along with teachers of the college were present to attend the conference in college auditorium.
Chief Guest, Prof. Baljit Singh (HOD Political Science, Jammu University) also stressed on the importance of such activities to make students aware about relations among countries on international level. He congratulated the department for organizing such an enriching and interesting event which helps students to gain more knowledge about the working of UN and issues of climate change, which is a global issue.
The organized MUN activity ended by vote of thanks by Dr. Harmeet Singh and students were made aware about the workings and organization of the United Nations as an international body. The activity enriched the students’ experience and they gained a new perspective about how diplomatic relations among different countries work on an international platform and the importance of the UN to take important decisions on matters such as climate change which is a global problem facing countries worldwide.
Prof. Suresh Kumar Bhat (IQAC Coordinator), Prof. Mamta Gupta (Dean Commerce) , Prof. Mala Bhasin (Staff Secretary),Dr. Javaid Iqbal, Dr. Vijender Sharma, Prof. Abhinav Sharma and members of organizing committee Prof.Paramjeet Singh, Dr. Vandana Sharma along with students were also present to witness the MUN event. Students, Jasmeen Kour, Lubna, Ragini, Iqra, Tanvi, Shivika, Sajida, Akashdeep also extended their support in organizing and coordinating the whole event.
