Punjab Health Minister Calls For Reducing Out of Pocket Medical Expenses While Addressing New Batch of Students At ISB, Mohali Campus
Earlier this week, Dr. Balbir Singh, Minister of Health & Family Welfare and Medical Education & Research, Government of Punjab delivered the inaugural address to the newly onboarded 8th batch of the Advanced Management Programme for Healthcare (AMPH) at the Mohali campus of the Indian School of Business (ISB).
Sharing his insights from his experience of developing and managing the public healthcare system in Punjab, Dr. Balbir Singh said, “There is a need to develop a robust healthcare system wherein public and private sectors collaborate to provide affordable and quality healthcare, reduce out-of-pocket expenses, have a world-class infrastructure, and improve the patient-doctor ratio”.
He exhorted the students to collaborate and work with the Government of Punjab in leapfrogging the health system in the state for improved health outcomes. He added, “Healthcare management skills in addition to compassion are the need of the hour today. While medical education trains doctors to provide care, delivery of affordable and accessible care is more complex. I am happy to note that AMPH provides the necessary managerial and health system knowledge to participants who can reimagine and rethink healthcare delivery by incorporating the latest in technology.”
Notably, Punjab Civil Medical Services has nominated two officers this year to the AMPH programme.
AMPH is ISB’s year-long modular healthcare management programme for achievement-oriented professionals from the healthcare delivery sector. The programme has successfully produced new-age healthcare leaders may it be CXOs, P/L leaders, Chief Digital Officers, or entrepreneurs who have transformed, scaled, and created new healthcare organisations to cater to the changing demands of the market.
The AMPH Class of 2024 onboarded 56 high-performing senior healthcare professionals from the healthcare delivery sector, HealthTech, consulting, defence, and diagnostics, among others, with an average work experience of 12 years. With 75% clinicians and 77% postgraduates, 64% professionals in the class come from the top and senior executive positions from organisations such as Apollo, Fortis, Narayana, Manipal, Medanta, Wipro, Novartis, and Govt. of Punjab, among others.
