Punjab Sports Minister inaugurated 31st Sub-Junior National Softball Championship (Boys & Girls) 2019 at LPU Campus
Jalandhar: Punjab Sports Minister Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi reached Lovely Professional University, today, where he inaugurated six-day 31st Sub-Junior National Softball Championship (Boys & Girls) 2019. More than 600 sports persons along with mentors, officials and referees from all across India are participating in the event. Before declaring the event open, Hon’ble Minister congratulated and inspired all participants for their zeal to be in the competition in such a tender age.
Minister Sodhi, who is also the President of Softball Association of India, further encouraged participants by informing that ‘Softball’ has been included in the Olympics and it will be a part of its 2020 games. He invoked the players to keep on practicing hard, and make a promise to be part of 2024 Olympics for bringing laurels to the country. He also appreciated the efforts and co-operation of LPU Management for propagating sports culture in the country and the state by being co-operative in organization of mega events providing needed facilities to the sports persons and the organisers.
Prior to this, LPU Executive Dean Dr Lovi Raj Gupta; CEO, Softball Association of India, Dr Praveen Anaukar; Secretary Softball Association of Punjab Mr PN Passi; LPU Dean Dr Sorabh Lakhanpal and others welcomed the elite guest at the campus. Participating from all across the country participated in a long march past, and LPU students presented cultural showcase. After oath taking ceremony, Dr Gupta invoked participants to ever continue with their sports-passion. Final match will be played on 13th February 2019.
