Punjab with the support of UNDP announced the SDG Action Awards in five categories
Chandigarh: Punjab Planning Department with the support of UNDP’s Sustainable Development Goals Coordination Centre (SDGCC) today announced the SDG Action Awards in five categories SDG Action Award for Economic Sustainability, SDG Action Award for Social Upliftment and Welfare, SDG Action Award for Environment Sustainability, SDG Action Award for ‘Leaving no one behind’ spirit, SDG Action Award for promoting integration, convergence, joint action and holistic solutions approach and the winners would be announced on 25th September, 2020 to mark the SDG Day.
An official spokesperson said that nominations for the awards have been sought across the State from common people, universities, industry and all departments. The details of the entire process including nomination form and details about award categories can be accessed at sdg-awards.com.
He said that Sustainable Development Goals Coordination Centre (SDGCC) supported by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is a platform to implement and achieve the ambitious SDG 2030 targets by integrating and facilitating all stakeholders and empower, prepare and fully equip the state of Punjab with technical knowledge, capacity, resources & systems. SDGCC is mandated to work closely with relevant government departments to provide the requisite impetus to the state government’s initiative in rolling out the Sustainable Development Goals.
The world needs to adapt to emerging NEW NORMAL in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic and SDGs give a perfect framework to create a sustainable world, said the spokesperson, adding that to carry on the important task of generating awareness about SDGs in the State, SDGCC is proposing to conduct the SDG Action awards to not only inform people about SDGs but also identify and felicitate people of the State of Punjab who have taken action to resolve problems being faced by them and the people around them. The implementation of SDGs necessitates that the WHOLE OF GOVERNMENT and WHOLE OF SOCIETY approaches are followed. In the post COVID-19 scenario SDGs have assumed much more importance in helping create a new normal.
He said that since SDGs were signed on September 25 and that is celebrated as the UN SDG Day, the winners will be announced through a virtual award ceremony, on the same date.SDG Action Awards is an innovative instrument which would encourage, promote and back the efforts of all change makers who are working towards making the world a better place.
