Qiao Jie awarded UNESCO-Equatorial Guinea International Prize for Research in the Life Sciences

Peking University : Dr. Qiao Jie, executive vice president of Peking University (PKU), president of Peking University Health Science Center (PKUHSC), and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), has been named one of this year’s laureates of the annual UNESCO-Equatorial Guinea International Prize for Research in the Life Sciences.

Qiao will be receiving the prize on April 23, 2024, at a ceremony in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, coinciding with the tenth Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development.

Since 1990, Dr. Qiao’s has been unwaveringly dedicated to reproductive biology and infertility pathology. Her pioneering contributions in reproductive medicine have not only significantly advanced our understanding of fertility and infertility mechanisms but have also catalyzed a revolution in the field.

Her research, ranging from mapping the intricate genetic processes of human reproduction to developing innovative techniques for pre-implantation genetic diagnosis, has revolutionized the field of in vitro fertilization (IVF) and genetic disease prevention.

Moreover, Dr. Qiao’s exploration of the gut microbiome’s role in female reproductive disorders has paved the way for precision medicine applications in reproductive health, opening new avenues for diagnosis and treatment.

In addition to her groundbreaking research, Dr. Qiao is dedicated to advancing scientific knowledge sharing. She has established publicly shared databases, ensuring open access to critical scientific data.

The UNESCO-Equatorial Guinea International Prize for Research in the Life Sciences is awarded annually to influential individuals and institutions, for their research towards improving the quality of human life.
