Queen Mary University Of London expert honoured in King’s Birthday Honours List

Professor John Pasi from Queen Mary’s Blizard Institute received the Honour for his pioneering work in the field of haemophilia. Professor Pasi said:

“I am delighted to be honoured with an MBE for research and NHS work that, with the team at Queen Mary and Barts Health, hopefully has pioneered the opportunity to realise long-lasting and positive change for clinical care in haematology.”

Professor Jo Martin CBE, Deputy Vice Principal (Health), said:

“Congratulations to John for receiving an MBE in recognition of the contributions he’s made to the NHS and treatment of haemophilia. John’s innovative research on haemostasis and thrombosis has led to lifelong changes for those with blood and clotting disorders. We are proud to have him as a colleague.”

Haemophilia is a serious condition which is thought to affect around 2,000 people in the UK. It puts those affected at risk of excessive bleeding even from the slightest injury as well as causing spontaneous internal bleeding, which can be life-threatening. The research, led by Professor Pasi, in this area saw significant breakthroughs where patients’ symptoms were eradicated using gene therapy.
