Queen Mary has taken space on the 12th floor of Lynton House, a Redbridge Council building, under a long-term lease. The space will be used for education purposes, enabling medical students to learn both in the classroom and mock ward environment.

The welcome news forms part of Redbridge Council’s commitment to supporting local people to improve skills and gain employment by expanding local opportunities.

Queen Mary University of London is ranked among the best universities in the country and is one of 24 leading UK universities who make up the prestigious Russell Group.

The Leader of Redbridge Council, Cllr Jas Athwal said:

“Having a world class University in the heart of Ilford opens up doors for young people across Redbridge, giving them the opportunity to follow their dreams closer to home.

Redbridge has a proud history of educational excellence. We’re home to some of the best schools in London and 95% of our schools are rated Good or Outstanding by Ofsted. Families move here to give their children the very best start in life and soon not only will that include exceptional schools but also an internationally recognised University.”

Professor Anthony Warrens, the Dean for Education at Queen Mary’s Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, said:

“We are delighted to expand our world-leading medical education to Ilford. This new campus will provide even more space for our medical students to grow and learn, and is a welcome addition to our excellent medical facilities.”
