Queen Mary University of London’s business school recognised with top accreditation

A gold standard worldwide, fewer than six per cent of business schools hold AACSB accreditation. Accredited schools have successfully demonstrated they have the resources, credentials and commitment needed to give students a first-rate and future-focused business education. The prestigious honour is based on the school’s quality in every aspect, from research and innovation to teaching and learning, as well as strategic management and engagement.

Achieving this accreditation is a rigorous process over several years, including an international peer review. In announcing the award this month, AACSB praised Queen Mary’s School of Business and Management for its “dedication – not only to their students, alumni network and greater business community, but to the higher education industry as a whole”.

A recent independent report by the Sutton Trust named Queen Mary the best university in the country for social mobility, and our School of Business and Management is a great illustration of this; Most of our UK undergraduates are from London, around three-quarters of whom are the first in their family to attend university, while more than half grew up in households with an annual income below £20,000.

Professor Colin Bailey, President and Principal at Queen Mary University of London, said: “This truly outstanding achievement is testament to the incredible work and commitment of everyone in our School of Business and Management. AACSB accreditation shows that our students benefit from a world-class education, learning from staff who are leaders in their field and getting the support needed to enable a rewarding career.”

Professor Mike Noon, Dean for Queen Mary’s School of Business and Management, continued: “As a values-driven business school that likes to challenge the status quo, AACSB accreditation is a fitting recognition of our dedication to innovation and impact. Of the very few business schools across the globe to hold this award, we are unique among this elite group in combining world-leading research with an unrivalled commitment to social mobility – proof positive that our inclusive community encouraging diverse ideas across disciplines helps us to achieve more.”

Professor Gill Kirton, Deputy Dean for the School and academic lead on its accreditation, added: “It’s fantastic to have AACSB recognise the unique strengths of our school, from our socially and economically impactful research to the collegial atmosphere among staff and students alike. It’s an enormous collective effort to attain such a prestigious accolade, so I’d like to extend my sincere thanks to all the diverse talents in our school community who contributed to this great success.”

Stephanie Bryant, AACSB Executive Vice-President and Chief Accreditation Officer, commented: “We applaud Queen Mary’s entire School of Business and Management team – including the administration, faculty, staff, and students – for their roles in earning this respected honour. Today’s students are tomorrow’s business leaders, and the addition of Queen Mary’s School of Business and Management to the network of AACSB-accredited institutions will have a lasting positive impact both locally and globally.”
