Queen’s University Belfast to appoint for three new posts in Mitchell Institute

The Chairs are the Senator George J. Mitchell Chair in Peace, Security and Justice, the Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton Chair in Women, Peace, Security and Justice, and the post of Deputy Director in the Institute.

Established in 2016, The Senator George J. Mitchell Institute for Global Peace, Security and Justice is a flagship for interdisciplinary research in areas of major societal change. It brings together researchers from a wide range of disciplines to tackle some of the greatest global problems of our age.

The Institute recently hosted the Agreement 25 Conference at the University, marking 25 years of the Belfast / Good Friday Agreement in April 2023.

Professor Ian Greer, President and Vice-Chancellor of Queen’s said: “I am delighted that we are recruiting for these three key roles based in the Senator George J. Mitchell Institute, which will support the Institute’s research, educational and societally-facing work, in the field of Peace, Security and Justice.”

Professor Nola Hewitt-Dundas, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the Faculty of Arts, English and Languages at Queen’s commented: “The Senator George J. Mitchell Institute for Global Peace, Security and Justice at Queen’s responds to the unprecedented global challenge of building a peaceful, inclusive and secure world by bringing together interdisciplinary areas of expertise at the University, on these issues.

“These three new posts are a great opportunity to be part of and build on the excellent work done since the Institute’s establishment in 2016.”

Professor Richard English, Director of the Senator George J. Mitchell Institute for Global Peace, Security and Justice said: “These three appointments will be transformative for the work of the Mitchell Institute at Queen’s, and we look forward to appointing outstanding academics to all three posts.”
