Raleigh Literary Society Commences Annual Literary Week

Aligarh: Raleigh Literary Society, Department of English, AMU held the inaugural ceremony for its annual Literary Week, in the Arts Faculty Lounge.

The chief guest, Dean Faculty of Arts, Prof Imtiaz Hasnain, lauded the efforts of the students for organising such event and encouraged them to hold more events, especially organising international conferences, and inspiring generation of ideas among the students.

He expressed satisfaction that the society considered live plants as a gift for the guests, and appreciated the efforts of teachers’ in-charge Prof Aysha Munira Rasheed and Prof Vibha Sharma for providing the students with such a novel idea.

 

The patron, Prof Asim Siddiqui emphasized the significance of a holistic development of the students and maintaining the literary fervor on the university campus. He also shared his observation on how the Raleigh Literary Society is older than any member in the department and quoted few anecdotes from the life of Sir Walter Raleigh, who was appointed as the first Professor of English at MAO College in 1885 and was also the first Chairman of the English Department.

 

Zoya Ahmad and Mehvish Saulat, Vice Presidents of the Raleigh Literary Society jointly gave the welcome address. Iram Ibrahim introduced chief guest and patron.

 

The President of the Society, Zainab Fatma gave a brief introduction about the events of the academic session 2020-2022.

 

The event was well attended by teaching faculty members along with more than 50 students.

 

The ceremony concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Mohd Shams Uddoha Khan, a member of the executive committee.
