Ramban: Labour Department provides Rs. 5.3 crore to construction workers under various schemes
Ramban: Labour Department, Ramban has provided Rs. 5.3 crore to registered construction workers under various schemes during the current financial year.
The assistance has been provided to registered construction workers for education of their children, family healthcare in major ailments, disability and death compensation.
Assistant Labour Commissioner (ALC), Rakesh Arora informed that an amount of Rs 5.3 crore provided by the Jammu and Kashmir Building and other Construction Workers Welfare Board (JKBOCWWB) was disbursed among the 25797 registered construction workers under different labour welfare schemes during the year 2020-21. The same funds have been transferred directly into the beneficiaries’ bank accounts.
As per the Labour Department, Rs 16 lakh have been provided to 39 beneficiaries under Higher Education Scheme, Rs 1.51 crore disbursed among 2114 beneficiaries under Lower Education Scheme, while Rs. 11.91 Lakh have been provided to 18 beneficiaries as healthcare assistance and Rs 1.08 crore compensation to 53 families of diseased construction workers.
Similarly, a financial assistance of Rs 6.75 lakh has been provided to 16 construction workers under disability scheme.
The Labour Department has also disbursed Rs. 2.35 crore among 23557 registered construction workers during Covid-19 pandemic for their survival.
The said amount helped the poor families in purchasing essential food commodities during the lockdown period. Under this package the Labour Department has provided a major relief to registered building construction workers of the district facing hardships due to lockdown.
As many as 21260 construction workers of the district are registered with Jammu and Kashmir Building, of which 8017 were registered during the financial year 2020-21.
The Labour Department also conducted series of awareness cum registration camps in different blocks of the district to provide them services at their doorstep.
