Reasi Administration celebrates Lohri with women SHGs at Malair
Reasi: District Administration Reasi today celebrated Lohri festival with women Self Help Groups here at Malair.
The aim was to promote and encourage women to form self help groups in the district and also to ensure that their products reach out to the masses.
The Self Help Groups from Reasi and Pouni participated in the celebrations along with the products.
Deputy Commissioner, Indu Khanwal Chib, held a detailed discussion with the SHG members about the kind of products being manufactured by them. She sought their suggestions for improving the quality and production of the products to cater to the demand of the general public.
The Deputy Commissioner said that Self Help Groups can play a major role in sensitising other women to form SHGs and in making them realise its importance in their empowerment. “Being part of SHGs also helps the women to take collective decision and develop their confidence and capabilities” the DDC suggested.
She further said that women interested in doing won business will be facilitated. She also discussed new designs, capacity building measures and marketing methodologies with the women.
She informed that to promote the talent in women folk working in self help groups, a special mela- Mera Hunar Mera Abhiyan shall be organised at Katra on Monday. “Regular exhibitions will be organised in order to promote their handmade goods and to motivate other unemployed young women to become self-reliant by creating Self-Help Groups” the DC announced.
The DC also called on the banks and the concerned government departments to help the women and contribute in making them self-reliant.
