Red Cross organises blood donation camp on World Blood Donation Day
Shimla: The Red Cross today organised a blood donation camp here today on the occasion of the World Blood Donation Day, which was inaugurated by Governor Bandaru Dattatraya, who is also the Chairman of State Red Cross Society. The Chairperson of State Red Cross Hospital Welfare Section Dr. Sadhna Thakur was also present on this occasion.
About 50 units of blood were donated during this camp in which various NGOs and students of HP University participated. The doctors and para-medical staff assisted this camp.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said that the World Blood Donation Day was being celebrated every year on 14 June by World Health Organisation since year 2004 to motivate the people for blood donation. He said that birthday of the scientist Karl Landsteiner, who was born on 14 June was also celebrated as World Blood Donor Day. He developed the blood group system of the human beings and was given Nobel prize for this distinguished work.
The Governor said that blood donation was a life-giving act which saves many lives. It also inculcates the feeling of serving towards humanity. He said that today the entire country was fighting against COVID-19 and the people and governments were making all out efforts to come out of this situation. He said that around two lakh people belonging to Himachal Pradesh had been brought back from different part of the country and all adequate arrangements had been made for them, besides following the quarantine directives of the union government. He expressed his gratitude towards all the Corona warriors and also appreciated the services being provided by the NGOs.
Bandaru Dattatraya and Dr. Sadhna Thakur also honoured the blood donors with letter of appreciation.
The Vishwas Education Welfare Society, Sevahar, Hind Seva Sangathan, Think D Big, Jai Bharat, Global Social Network Welfare Society and 44 students of HP University participated in the blood donation camp.

Medical Superintendent of I.G.M.C. Shimla Dr. Janak Raj was also present on this occasion.
