Replicate Gujarat Amul model in J&K: Samoon to JKMPCL

SRrinagar: Principal Secretary Animal, Sheep and Fisheries Department Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon today stressed on Jammu Kashmir Milk Producers Cooperative Limited (JKMPCL) to replicate Amul success model of Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation here.
He said this during a meeting of all stakeholders called for taking a review of findings of baseline survey conducted by National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), Anand regarding status of dairy sector in J&K.
The meeting was attended by Director Animal Husbandry Kashmir, experts from NDDB, CEO, Livestock Development Board Kashmir/ Jammu, DGM NABARD, Director Planning SKUAST K, CEO JKMPCL and other officers of Animal Husbandry Department here.
Experts from National Dairy Development Board presented preliminary findings of baseline survey in the meeting.
He reiterated the commitment of the Government that dairy sector is a priority sector and establishing a separate dairy mission reflects seriousness of government in achieving the target of doubling farmers income by the year 2022.
The officers informed the meeting that main constraint for development of fodder in J&K is lack of availability of quality fodder.
Given these constraints, he stressed on promotion of integrated technologies and processes for enhancing the availability of fodder in J&K.
Dr. Samoon directed all the stakeholders including NDDB to devise a concrete action plan for fodder development in J&K.
“Develop a strategy to promote supply of quality seeds, production of fodder crops besides extending fodder cultivation to currently unutilized lands,” he told officers.
In this regard it was decided that NDDB would submit a preliminary report of survey within two weeks and Detailed Project Report (DPR) by 31st March 2020.
