Research scholar’s sudden demise condoled
Aligarh : The Department of English, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) deeply mourned the sad demise of one of their research scholars MST Sayema Khatun, who passed away in the evening of 10th of October at J.N. Medical College and Hospital. She suffered from dengue days before her passing away.
Her untimely death has left the Department in a deep sense of loss and pain. A condolence meeting was held in the Department, wherein all the members offered heartfelt condolences and expressed deepest sympathy to her bereaved husband and family.

Dr. Adiba Faiyaz, her supervisor, said Sayema was in the third year of her research and had been a part of the department for more than five years.
She completed her post graduation from the Department of English, AMU, in the year 2019, after having finished her BA from T.M. College, Bihar.
Professor Vibha Sharma remembered Ms Sayema Khatoon as a very dedicated research scholar and a cheerful person.
As a scholar, Ms Sayema had started to make contributions through her research, particularly on the novels of Turkish- British novelist, Elif Shafak. Her PhD synopsis titled, “Exploring Identity, Memory and Politics in the Select Works of Elif Shafak” was her work in progress. She made her first paper presentation titled, “Identity and Post-truth: A Critical Analysis of Elif Shafak’s How to Stay Sane in an Age of Division” in an International Conference on Post-truth(s) organized by the department in November, 2023. She also took interest in Post colonial writings and had submitted research papers for publication in reputed journals.
“Sayema qualified UGC NET in English literature four times and her dedication, sincerity and determination towards her work stand as a testament to a scholar in making”, said Dr Adiba Faiyaz.
