RICE UNIVERSITY: Rice announces tuition for 2021-22 academic year

Rice is frequently rated as one of the nation’s best values among private schools because its tuition tends to be lower than its peer research universities and its financial aid policies are regularly reviewed to keep its exceptional education affordable to students from a wide variety of cultural and economic backgrounds.

The university consistently ranks among the nation’s top 20 institutions of higher learning. Rice recently ranked No. 16 among the best national universities in U.S. News and World Report’s Best Colleges guidebook as well as The Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education College Rankings. Money magazine placed Rice No. 18 on its list of the nation’s best colleges ranked by value.

The Princeton Review, a closely watched annual report based on student reviews, lauded Rice for having the best quality of life of any institution of higher learning in the nation, and for six consecutive years Rice has claimed the top spot in the survey’s assessment of interactions between races and classes. In addition, Niche ranked Rice No. 7 in its ratings of America’s best colleges and No. 4 on its list of colleges with the best professors.

The Rice Investment, an enhancement of the university’s financial aid program for domestic students, offers students with family incomes below $65,000 grant aid covering their full tuition, mandatory fees, room and board; students with family incomes between $65,000 and $130,000 receive grants covering at least full tuition; and students with family incomes between $130,000 and $200,000 receive grants covering at least half tuition. (The grants assume that families have typical assets for their income levels.) The university also does not require loans as part of financial aid requirements for students whose family income is below $200,000. Students with family incomes higher than $200,000 may also receive aid based on a determination of financial need.

Graduate education costs for 2021-22 will vary for different programs. Tuition for doctoral students will rise 3.5% to $52,070. Tuition for graduate students in architecture will be $35,000 for new students entering in fall 2021 and $33,000 for continuing students. Tuition for graduate students in music will be $29,500. Tuition for students in the professional master’s programs will be $20,000 for religion, $39,000 for global affairs, $35,000 for human-computer interaction and human factors, $35,000 for industrial-organizational psychology, $38,500 for master’s programs in natural sciences, $51,500 for most master’s programs in engineering and $58,000 for energy economics. The online master’s in computer science and the online master’s in data science will charge $1,667 per credit hour. Tuition will be $63,500 for students in the full-time MBA program at Rice’s Jones Graduate School of Business. Tuition for other Jones School programs will be $55,625 for the Master of Accounting, $109,930 for the online MBA@Rice and the Evening MBA for Professionals, $115,050 for the Weekend MBA for Professionals and $131,630 for the Executive MBA.
