Rice University student named 2022-2023 Shepherd School-Houston Symphony Community Embedded Fellow
Christian Harvey, a first-year graduate student studying double bass performance, is the 2022-2023 Shepherd School-Houston Symphony Brown Foundation Community Embedded Fellow.
The fellowship is awarded to one Shepherd School graduate student each year and provides an opportunity to work with children and others in the Houston area.
Harvey, a student of double bass professor Paul Ellison, began his music journey at Martha Ellen Stilwell School of the Arts in Georgia, where he performed at many notable venues, including Carnegie Hall. He holds a bachelor’s degree in music performance from Columbus State University in Columbus, Georgia.
Harvey said he hopes to inspire children to pursue music through the fellowship.
The fellowship program began in 2015, allowing the Houston Symphony to expand its education and community engagement activities from approximately 200 to 1,000 events per year. For more information on the program, visit https://houstonsymphony.org/about-us/community-musicians .
