Rice University’s Public Affairs recognised with Telly Awards

Rice’s Office of Public Affairs is a double winner in the 44th annual Telly Awards, which honor excellence in video and television.

The office was a silver winner in the workplace culture and educational institution categories for its videos “President DesRoches’ first day as Rice University president” and “The Class of 2022: ‘Walking the Loop,’” respectively. The awards were announced May 23.

“Brandon does a remarkable job capturing the wonder and spirit of Rice,” said Jeff Falk, interim vice president for public affairs and director of its news and media relations department. “He tells stories that captivate, inspire and stir the emotions, and this big-time recognition shows his peers in the videography business recognize this extraordinary talent as well. More importantly, talent is nothing without work ethic and tenacity, and Brandon is a true role model for the Public Affairs team in that regard.”

The “Walking the Loop” series features footage of and narration by pairs of graduating seniors in leadup to Rice’s 109th commencement last month. The video chronicling DesRoches’ first day as president shows his normal routine of a morning run, frequent meetings and engaging interactions with the Rice community.

Since 1979, the Telly Awards have honored the best work from some of the most respected advertising agencies, television stations, production companies and publishers from around the world. Winners are selected by a judging council consisting of more than 200 leading experts.

This year, the Telly Awards received nearly 13,000 entries from around the globe, the most in a decade.
