Rise Against Hunger India (RAHI) is a hunger relief organization that distributes food and life-changing aid to the most vulnerable. On International Volunteer Day, 05th December 2020, RAHI is celebrating and honoring over 45,000 volunteers who have participated in meal packaging events for people in crisis.
Rise Against Hunger India has a meal packaging program which is a volunteer-based initiative. Here volunteers come together to package highly nutritious dehydrated meals comprising of rice, dal (lentils), vegetables along with 23 micro-nutrients &minerals. So far, RAHI has touched nearly 1.5 million people’s lives by providing enough nutrition through its meals to help them lead an active healthy life.
Volunteers are at the heart of RAHI’s mission to end hunger by 2030. RAHI welcomes volunteers of all ages to help achieve its mission. Year after year, thousands of volunteers take part not only in meal packaging, but also by giving their time, talent, skills and other resources to help RAHI reach those in need.
The coronavirus pandemic and the lockdown that followed destroyed the lives and livelihoods of the most vulnerable communities such as migrant workers, daily wagers, construction workers and other vulnerable groups. This has further impacted their capability to provide themselves and their families with one of the most basic necessities – food!
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Dola Mohapatra, Executive Director, Rise Against Hunger India said, “India is ranked at 94 among 107 countries in the Global Hunger Index 2020, terming the level of hunger in India as ‘serious’. This calls for collective action from everyone to pledge for a hunger-free India. Today, we are happy and proud that our meal packaging program has been liked by individuals and organizations from different streams as a platform to participate in a hands-on hunger relief program. We salute them for their compassion and good gesture in helping us reach out to vulnerable groups. We invite everyone to be a part of the growing movement of volunteers and help us in our mission.”
