RMIT: RMIT subjects ranked among the world’s best
Standout results included four subjects retaining their place in the top 50 globally.
RMIT’s Art and Design subject maintained its number one spot in Australia, is ranked second in the Asia-Pacific and 15th globally.
RMIT also maintained its strong reputation in Architecture and the Built Environment, ranking third in Australia for this subject area and 31st globally.
Communications and Media Studies was ranked 4th in Australia and remained in the top 50 globally, moving up one place to be ranked 40th in 2022.
Also retaining its spot in the top 50 was Library and Information Management, ranking 49th in the world.
Other key results include:
Accounting and Finance (98th), Agriculture and Forestry (100th) and Materials Science (87th) were also placed in the top 100
In Australia, RMIT ranks 4th for Geography and Development Studies and ranked in the top 100 globally for both these subjects
Civil and Structural Engineering performed strongly, moving up three places to 6th in Australia, and in the top 100 globally.
RMIT also continued to rise in the QS faculty rankings:
Arts and Humanities: 7th in Australia after moving up 17 places to 99th globally
Engineering and Technology: 116th globally, moving up 28 places from 144th
Social Sciences and Management: 146th globally, up 77 places from 223rd.
Arts and humanities continue to shine
Deputy Vice-Chancellor Design and Social Context and Vice-President, Professor Tim Marshall said he was delighted to see subjects within his college and across RMIT continuing to perform so well.
“These results are testament to RMIT’s high-calibre and innovative teaching and research practices across Art and Design, Communication and the Built Environment, the Arts and Humanities, and across the University,” he said.
“It’s wonderful to see our diverse, creative and industry-connected programs continuing to be recognised here in Australia and internationally.”
Deputy Vice-Chancellor Education and Vice-President Professor Sherman Young said RMIT’s positive subject results were consistent with other recent rankings successes for the university.

“These latest results reflect other strong performances including the most recent QS Graduate Employability Rankings, where we ranked in the top 100 global universities for the fifth consecutive year.”

Subjects in the top 100 globally
The ten subjects ranked in the top 100 globally for RMIT were Art and Design, Arhictecture and the Built Environment, Communication and Media Studies, Library and Information Management, Development Studies, Civil and Structural Engineering, Geography, Materials Science, Accounting and Finance, and Agriculture and Forestry.
RMIT is ranked among the world’s top universities in 28 of 43 assessed subject areas featured in this year’s QS World University Rankings by Subject.
