RWTH Aachen Reappoints Professor Ulrich Rüdiger for a Second Term as Rector
Professor Ulrich Rüdiger has been appointed for a second term as Rector of RWTH, receiving his certificate of appointment from Ina Brandes, Minister for Culture and Science of North Rhine-Westphalia. His new term will begin on August 1, 2024.
The University Election Assembly, which includes members of the University Senate and the Board of Governors, re-elected Professor Rüdiger for a second four-year term in October 2023. For this extended term, the following Vice-Rectors were appointed: Professor Matthias Wessling for Knowledge Transfer, Professor Sandra Korte-Kerzel for Research, Professor Ute Habel for International Affairs, Professor Sabine Brück-Dürkop for Human Resources Management and Development, and Professor Joost for Teaching and Learning.
Since August 1, 2018, Ulrich Rüdiger has served as Rector of RWTH Aachen University. Before this, he was Rector of the University of Konstanz. He studied physics and completed his doctorate and habilitation at RWTH. He has also held a position at New York University and conducted research at the IBM Research Laboratory in San José and at Cornell University.
In 2002, he became a Professor of Experimental Solid State Physics at the University of Konstanz. Under his leadership, RWTH was again named a University of Excellence in 2019 as part of Germany’s Excellence Strategy. In recognition of his contributions to science, he received the Ordre des Palmes Académiques in 2012 and honorary doctorates from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and Kyiv National Economic University.
Born in Helmstedt in 1966, Ulrich Rüdiger is married and has four children.
