RWTH: Digitization of the German stone and earth industry
As part of the research project PROminingThe Institute for Raw Material Engineering (MRE) under the direction of Professor Bernd Lottermoser and the FIR e. V. at the RWTH Aachen under the scientific direction of Professor Günther Schuh and the management of Professor Volker Stich a demonstrator of a digital platform that enables companies in the stone and earth industry (S&E industry) to know about the current capacity utilization of their company and to forecast demand based on internal and external data. To this end, MRE and FIR combine their competencies in terms of digitization and business transformation as well as specialist and industry knowledge. The project is funded by the Working Group of Industrial Research Associations (AiF) and the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK) with around 420,000 euros.
The demonstrator of the digital platform should ultimately make it possible to anticipate fluctuations in demand on the basis of forecasts and to initiate appropriate measures. The targeted platform solution addresses in particular the needs of small and medium-sized companies in the German S&E industry.
Based on the previous results, the company-neutral conception, development and programming of the demonstrator will take place in 2022. Finally, the implementation, testing and validation of the platform demonstrator takes place in selected company groups of the project-supporting committee. There is already an intensive transfer of results and an exchange of experience through workshops, interviews and site visits with industrial partners, for example. The project support committee is always looking for new participants. You benefit from a regular exchange with research and business and can already use the results in your company. The third PROmining Day will take place on March 17, 2022.
