RWTH Placed Among the World’s Most Important Innovation Drivers

RWTH Aachen University’s innovative capacity has been confirmed by the “Top 100 Global Innovators” report, published earlier this month by the scientific information services provider Clarivate Analytics.


With 558 research papers being referenced by the top 100 global innovators in 2023, RWTH is one of only two German universities to make it onto this list of the most important research institutions. Among the institutions located in the EU, RWTH makes it to fourth place.

Drawing on publication and patent analyses, the report examines which 100 companies worldwide are leading in innovation. In a second step, it takes a look at which universities and research institutions are most frequently cited in the patents of the “Top 100 Global Innovators.” As a result, the report contains a list of the 50 institutions whose scientific expertise was most frequently referenced in the patents.
