RWTH Professor Appointed to the Board of the Society of German Natural Scientists and Physicians
Starting next year, Professor Carsten Bolm will be part of the board of directors of the Society of German Natural Scientists and Physicians (GDNÄ).
Professor Carsten Bolm from the Institute of Organic Chemistry at RWTH Aachen University was elected to the Board of the Society of German Natural Scientists and Physicians (GDNÄ), having won a large majority of votes. The scientist is looking forward to his new tasks with confidence: “I am looking forward to my new tasks at the GDNÄ and I will do my best to represent RWTH properly there.” From 2025 to 2028, he will represent the field of chemistry, making him the second scientist from RWTH Aachen University to be active on the GDNÄ Board of Directors. Professor Jürgen Flöge from Uniklinik RWTH Aachen represents the Department of Medicine.
Bolm cites the interdisciplinary research approach of his chair and institute as the reason for his candidacy: “On the one hand, we are working on the development of new environmentally friendly production processes for small molecules, using methods such as catalysis and mechanochemistry. On the other hand, we are investigating the properties of these products. To do this, we are in close scientific contact with our colleagues from the fields of medicine and engineering.” This interdisciplinary approach reflects the same approach that the GDNÄ utilizes.
The GDNÄ has set itself the task of strengthening relations between the natural sciences, medicine, and technology. Personalities such as Lise Meitner, Max Planck, Albert Einstein, and Werner Heisenberg had a decisive influence on the Society, which was founded in 1822.
