The campaign draws attention to violence against women. The program of events starts on November 9.

November 25 is the “International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women”. On this day, orange flags will be hoisted in front of the main building of RWTH Aachen University on Templergraben to draw attention to the issue until December 10. The “Orange the World” campaign was initiated by UN Woman, with the color orange symbolizing a future without violence against women.

“At RWTH Aachen University, we are aware of the social responsibility of universities. By participating in the campaign, we want to raise awareness of the issue, express our solidarity with women affected by violence and discrimination, and support the measures agreed by the signatory states in the Istanbul Convention to end violence against women,” explains Professor Sabine Brück-Dürkop, Vice Rector for Human Resources Management and Development. “Respectful and fair treatment at the University is very close to our hearts. That’s why we specifically sensitize and train people with responsibility in personnel management and teaching at our University.”

The Equal Opportunities Offices of RWTH Aachen University and FH Aachen University of Applied Sciences are offering a supporting program consisting of various events for members of the Aachen universities and other interested parties to mark this campaign.
