RWTH: RWTH University Library is changing the system
On August 1st, the University Library of RWTH Aachen University will switch to the state-wide uniform library management system ALMA. At the same time, the public catalog will be converted to the associated “Primo” system. This measure is financed as part of a nationwide initiative by the Ministry of Culture and Science. The change will lead to temporary restrictions, those responsible apologize for this.
The restrictions on media lending will be most noticeable. This can only be done to a limited extent from July 25th to July 31st, booking loans will not be possible during this period, so it will not be possible to borrow items. However, returns can always be made manually.
Interlibrary loan is also affected: Since RWTH is changing over at the same time as 15 other universities from the NRW network, interlibrary loan cannot be used at times. Returnable media cannot be ordered from June 10th to July 7th. However, they can be returned against a manually issued receipt. In the case of essay copies, neither is possible between July 18 and August 7.
The UB has tried to keep the restrictions as short as possible and will also be open throughout the changeover period and the local employees will be available for further questions. The electronic media offerings of the University Library, which will remain usable throughout, are not affected, as is media acquisition, which will then not be computer-aided.
