RWTH’s Filipa Silva Melo Awarded DAAD Prize 2023 for Outstanding Achievement

For her excellent academic achievements and her intercultural commitment, Filipa Silva Melo received the DAAD Prize 2023 from the German Academic Exchange Service. This is endowed with 1,000 euros. The Portuguese Melo is studying in the 5th semester of the bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with an average grade of 1.8. She volunteers in the BeBuddy program and supports new international students. She took part in the “Europe Makes Schools” program and, as an ambassador, introduced students at the Käthe Kollwitz School in Aachen to her home country of Portugal. Melo is involved in event management in the association INCAS eV (INtercultural Center of Aachen Students). She is also active in the occupancy committee of the dormitory administration as part of student self-government.

Melo is currently studying in Valencia as part of the Erasmus program. Ute Habel, RWTH Vice Rector for International Affairs, and Henriette Finsterbusch, Head of International University Relations, presented the certificate to the award winner before her departure. During the welcome event of the RWTH Welcome Week, in which the DAAD Prize is regularly awarded, the prize winner addressed the new international students via video greeting.
