São Paulo Sees Growth In Proportion Of Mothers

More than 77% of women who were mothers in São Paulo in 2021 were natural from the State. This is what the study of Naturalness of mothers in 2021 reveals , by the Seade Foundation, based on statistics from the Civil Registry. The proportion grew in comparison with data from 2010, when 72.9% of mothers were born in the State. The percentage indicates, indirectly, the drop in the migration of women of childbearing age to São Paulo, which was very expressive in previous decades.

Among the 2021 mothers born in other states, Bahia, Minas Gerais, Pernambuco, Alagoas and Paraná appear in greater numbers. Regions such as Itapeva, Marília and Registro registered that more than 90% of the mothers were from São Paulo, while the non-native ones are mostly from Paraná. On the other hand, the Metropolitan Region and the regions of Campinas and Ribeirão Preto had the lowest rates of birth of mothers from São Paulo.

Eight thousand mothers, or 1.5% of the total, are foreign. The number is three times greater than that recorded in 2010. The largest share corresponds to Bolivians, whose number doubled in the period. Then come the Haitians (17.6%) and Venezuelans (5.1%), who almost did not appear in the data of the previous decade. The Chinese had their participation reduced from 9.8% to 3.4%.
