SCERT J&K Jammu hosts National Seminar on Art Education

 

JAMMU : Art Education & Vocational Education wing of the SCERT-J&K Divisional Office Jammu organised a 3 Day National Seminar on Art Education-Policy, Practices and Pedagogy through virtual mode. The seminar will continue till 25th August, 2021.

The seminar is being organised on the directions of the Principal Secretary to Government, School Education Department, B. K. Singh and under the guidance of Director SCERT J&K, Prof. Veena Pandita and supervision of Joint Director SCERT Jammu, Surinder Kumar.

The seminar was inaugurated by Prof. Veena Pandita, Patron of the seminar. She spoke at length on the subject and said that the Integration of art with other subjects means that art becomes the medium of teaching and learning, that is, drawing and painting, dance, drama, music etc become an integral part of the classroom process. It also implies adopting an art integrated curriculum, where art forms become the basis of classroom learning. Art integrated learning can provide means to bridge the content of different subjects in logical, child centred and meaningful ways.

The seminar is being attended by SCERT, DIET Faculty and resource persons from the entire Jammu and Kashmir UT.

The seminar was co-ordinated by Tapasya Sharma, Senior Academic Officer, SCERT J&K, who threw light on Art as an expression which can bring out the creativity and imagination from within and focussed that integrating Art to education helps to make the entire teaching and learning process joyful and fun. One of the key takeaways from the new National Education Policy is the increased focus on Arts and the proposed integration of Arts and other subjects.

The NEP brings importance to India’s varied cultural heritage in terms of arts, crafts, traditions, and literature, and at the same time highlights the need to preserve this wealth for India’s economy and identity. The objective of the seminar is to build up an understanding on the significance of Art Education in school and to have an understanding on Art Integrated Learning as a pedagogical approach, to provide a platform for sharing researches and innovations in Art Integrated Learning and to provide a platform for sharing new developments and challenges in the implementation of Art Integrated Learning in schools.

The session was chaired by Prof. Jyotsana Tiwari, DEAA, NCERT, Delhi who discussed and reflected the proceedings and congratulated Prof Veena Pandita and her team from SCERT Jammu for being amongst the first few in the country to organise National Level Seminar on Art Education. She suggested atleast 10 Bagless Days for the students who should be taken to the places where actual Art & Craft is practiced and good practices must be incorporated in actual classroom transactions to make teaching learning joyful.

Key speakers in today’s session were Dr Asha Singh former Assistant Prof University of Delhi, Narayan Mangalram, National Awardee teacher from Maharshtra and Rekha Chug Teacher DMC Primary school, Delhi.

The national seminar is being conducted under the convenorship of Kishore Kumar, Head, of the Wing and Advisory Committee comprising Irwinder Kour, Deepak Sharma, Tapasya Sharma, Pooja Sharma, Akash Khajuria from SCERT-JK and Ms.Jaswinder Kour, Coordinator, DRC Pre-primary Education Jammu.
