Schiller International University and UNITAR Forge Partnership to Enhance Master’s Programs in Sustainability Management and International Relations & Diplomacy
Schiller International University and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) have entered a partnership for students pursuing the Master’s in Sustainability Management and the Master’s in International Relations & Diplomacy. The collaboration will offer students opportunities in international internships, professional development, and immersive learning experiences.
On June 15, 2024, in Madrid, the agreement was officially signed by Alex Mejía, Director of the Division for People and Inclusion at UNITAR, Dr. Marta Muñiz, President and CEO of Schiller International University, and Professor Ray Lloyd, Deputy CEO of GEDU, at the university’s Madrid campus, as part of the Global Alumni reunion event. This partnership symbolizes a significant commitment to fostering practical and impactful education in fields critical to global development and diplomacy.
International Internship Opportunities.
Students enrolled in these master’s programs will have the opportunity to apply for a 3-month internship in New York or Geneva, two of the world’s most influential cities in diplomacy and sustainability. These internships will provide hands-on experience, enabling students to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world settings. This experience is designed to cultivate the professional skills that are sought-after by employers across various industries.
Schiller International University and UNITAR will ensure a personalized selection process and continuous support throughout the internship period. This includes mentoring students to maximize their chances of securing these opportunities.
Graduation Ceremony in Geneva and Fellowship Program
Graduates will also have the opportunity to celebrate their achievements at a ceremony held at the United Nations Headquarters in Geneva, an iconic location that underscores the global significance of their studies. Prior to the ceremony, students will have the option to participate in a four-day fellowship program, immersing themselves in the world of multilateral diplomacy and international organizations.
This fellowship program will include workshops, visits to UN agencies, and networking events. It provides a rare opportunity for students to interact with diplomats, permanent mission personnel, and representatives from civil society. Additionally, there is a possibility for students to attend relevant international meetings during their study visit. Upon successful completion, graduates will receive certification in accordance with UNITAR’s rigorous standards.
Mentorship and Professional Development
UNITAR will extend its mentorship to up to five students per master’s program each year, focusing on career development within the United Nations system. This mentorship aims to guide students in navigating their career paths and enhancing their professional prospects.
The partnership will also facilitate access to internships and traineeships within UN agencies. While UNITAR provides substantial support in this process, students are ultimately responsible for securing these internships. This approach encourages students to be proactive and engaged in their career development.
