Second round of the debate held for Harold Cox Cambridge Speaking Prize

ALIGARH : The University Debating and Literary Club, Aligarh Muslim University organised the second round of the Harold Cox Cambridge Speaking Prize, a long-standing conventional debating competition, at the Kennedy Auditorium on September 5, 2023.

At the onset, Areeba Dilshad, a member of the club introduced the rules to the participants.

There were 23 participants who had participated in the first round of the competition, held in May, as well. The same participants were called for the second round of the competition.

The President University Debating and Literary Club, Dr. Sadaf Fareed, welcomed the guests and highlighted the significance of the Harold Cox Cambridge Speaking Prize Debate Competition. She mentioned that same competition used to be organised by the “Siddons Club” which is now known as the University Debating and Literary Club.  She also said that the club is reviving its history by organising this debate competition.

The panel of the judges consisted of Prof. Mohammad Tariq Chattari (Professor, Department of Urdu), Prof. Jawed S. Ahmed (Professor, Department of English) and Dr. Shahbaz Ali (Assistant Professor, Department of Hindi).

As per tradition, the Secretary, University Debating and Literary Club, Aafia Rizvi opened the debate by introducing the motion to the audience, “This house believes that only an ethical relationship with nature can help mitigate climate change”.

The event concluded with an impactful address by the Chair, Prof. Mohammad Tariq Chattari.
