Seminar on Green Energy

 

Aligarh, May 20: Resource persons and experts highlighted the dangers of global warming, emphasizing upon the need of green energy for sustainable development, in a seminar jointly organized by the Electrical Engineering Section, University Polytechnic, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), and The Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE), Aligarh centre, on the eve of 54th World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WT & ISD).

The inaugural function featured Faculty members of the University Polytechnic, Members of IETE, Aligarh Centre, and delegates from other departments of the University.

Mr. Tehzeeb Ahmed Abbasi, Associate Professor, EES & Hony’ Treasurer, IETE Aligarh Centre welcomed the delegates on behalf of the Principal, University Polytechnic.

Convener of the programme Mrs. Sameera, Associate Professor, EES, provided an overview of the seminar and introduced the resource persons. She discussed the UN’s IPCC report which warns about “code red for humanity” due to global warming. The alarm, urges the shift of energy sector from conventional to green energy. She urged upon the young generation to be an ambassador of green energy for sustainable development.

Dr. Abdus Samad, co-convener of the seminar and Hony’ secretary, IETE Aligarh Centre presented an overview of the WT & IS Day.

Dr. Samad read the message from President, IETE. He said the theme for this year’s Telecom Day “Digital Technologies for Older Persons and Healthy Ageing” is very well connected with the seminar topic.

Prof. Mohammad Altamush Siddiqui, Dean, Faculty of Engineering & Technology, AMU, delivered the inaugural address as the Chief Guest. He highlighted the importance of green energy and sustainable development. “If we are to avoid environmental disasters, we will have to resort to green energy for a sustainable future”, he pointed out.

In his presidential remarks Prof. Muzaffar Ahmad Siddiqi, Chairman, IETE, Aligarh talked about the relevance of IETE and its strong association with AMU.

Mrs. Kausar Jahan, In-charge, Electrical Engineering Section, University Polytechnic proposed the vote of thanks.

Prof. Mohd. Rihan, and Dr. Mohd. Tariq from the Electrical Engineering Department, AMU delivered special talks in technical sessions.

Certificates were distributed among the participants in the valedictory session.

The seminar Organizing Secretaries Mr. Mohd Tariq Sami and Mr. Mohd. Umar Rehman, Assistant Professors, Electrical Engineering Section conducted the valedictory session.
