Seminar on Volunteerism, Adult Education and the Role of HEI’s held
Aligarh : Centre of Continuing and Adult Education and Extension, AMU organized a National Seminar on Volunteerism, Adult Education and the Role of Higher Education Institutes in the light of National Education Policy 2020 and New India Literacy Program on March 4, 2023 at 10:30 am at the Lounge, Faculty of Arts.
During the inaugural session in his Presidential remark Prof. Mohammad Gulrez, the Pro-vice Chancellor, AMU, said that with his years of association with Adult Education and Extension work, he realises that education for all is a dream for which everyone must work so that a big population contributes to nation building.
The Chief Guest, Prof. SK Singh, former Vice Chancellor of Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal said that we have long had volunteerism as an important part of Indian education policy and the need of the hour is to think of ways to work in this area.
Dr. Shikka Kapoor, Professor and Head Department of Adult & Continuing Education and Extension, Jamia Millia Islamia in her keynote address said that with a huge population that India has, there are blocks on the way to educating all and volunteerism at a mass level is a way to the solution. Dr. Kalpana Kapoor, Director, Indian Adult Education Association, New Delhi highlighted how Adult Education cannot progress until the privileged devote their time and other resources towards universal literacy.
Earlier Prof Aysha Munira Rasheed, Convenor of the Seminar, welcomed the guests and introduced the theme of the Seminar. She added that by tapping on moral resources and corporate responsibility, universal literacy and soft skills training can be achieved.
Participants presented 20 research papers covering topics from general literacy to communication skills, life skills, soft skills to digital literacy, digital harassment and phishing. Prof. Naseem Ahmad, Prof. Asim Siddiqui and Prof. Rashid Nehal chaired the technical sessions.
