Seminar organized on Arabic-Malayalam

 

ALIGARH  : The Malayalam Section, Department of Modern Indian Languages, Aligarh Muslim University organized a one-day seminar on “Arabic Malayalam: History and Literature”. Prof. A. Nujum, in his inaugural address, stated that Arabic Malayalam is a rich branch of Malayalam literature and the works are not yet properly studied and evaluated.

Prof T.N. Satheesan, Chairperson of the department, presided over the function. In his presidential remarks, he stressed that due to Arabic script the rich tradition of Arabic Malayalam literature could not reach general public and efforts are to be taken to popularise the Arabic Malayalam Literature.

Dr Muneer, Assistant Professor, Department of English delivered the key note address and elaborated on the linguistic and cultural features of Arabic Malayalam literature. He extensively quoted from the Arabic Malayalam texts like Muhiyuddin Mala, Nafeesathu Mala, etc.

Rafsal Babu C.V., Coordinator of the seminar, gave a presentation on Arabic Malayalam and related subjects.

Safeek Vazhippara (Calicut), Dr Althaf Husssain (Trivandrum), Dr Munawar Hanih T T (Kannur) and the research scholars like Mehboob (Islamic Studies), Afzal (Arabic), Yunus MTP (Malayalam), Sibily, Asif, Jaseem presented papers on various aspects of Arabic Malayalam.
