Series of initiatives on World No Tobacco Day

Aligarh: The Aligarh Muslim University, Dr ZA Dental College’s Public Health Dentistry, under the Department of Periodontia and Community Dentistry, celebrated World No Tobacco Day with a series of initiatives aimed at spreading awareness about the detrimental effects of tobacco use. The event witnessed an enthusiastic response from participants and the public.

The highlight of the occasion was a poster making competition held at STS School and Dr ZADC, attracting participants from various age groups. Individuals showcased their artistic talent and commitment to the cause by submitting thought-provoking artwork that vividly depicted the consequences of tobacco addiction. Winners were announced in two categories: e-poster making and school poster making.

In the e-poster category, Muhammad Ashhab secured the first position, followed by Shruti Gupta in second place, and Sana Nasim and Naba Khan jointly securing the third position. In the school poster making category, Noman Nahid and Saif emerged as the winners, with Rao Yusuf and Kamran securing the second position, and Vivek Kumar and Areeb Hashim securing the third position. They were awarded with prizes, certificates, and the opportunity to have their artwork displayed prominently at the Dr ZADC premises, ensuring their powerful messages reach a wider audience.

To complement the poster making competition, Dr ZADC released an impactful anti-tobacco video titled “We Need Food, Not Tobacco.” The video, created by undergraduate students Muhammad Ashhab and Mohd Azam Khan, featured real-life stories of individuals who successfully overcame their tobacco addiction.

“We are delighted to have organized such an event to commemorate World No Tobacco Day,” said Principal Prof (Dr) R K Tewari. The event garnered an overwhelming response from the public, with a diverse audience attending the competition and video screening.
