Series of lectures to mark Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary
Aligarh: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) will commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi with a series of lectures on his message of peace, non-violence, simplicity and austerity by renowned international scholars. The lectures will be held through video conferencing platforms in line with the Government of India guidelines, measures and markers to ensure strict adherence to social distancing.
Professor Emeritus Madhav Deshpande (University of Michigan, AnnArbor, USA) will deliver the first lecture on July 27, Prof Ajay Skaria (College of Liberal Arts, University of Minnesota, USA) will address on August 10, Prof Faisal Devji (St Antony’s College, University of Oxford, UK) is scheduled to speak on August 17 and Dr H Hilal Sahin (Dept of History, Giresun University, Turkey) will deliver the lecture on August 24.
AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor will give the inaugural addresses of all the lectures. Prof Arshi Khan, Prof Mohd Sajjad and Prof M J Warsi will introduce the speakers; while Mr Abdul Hameed, IPS (AMU Registrar), Prof Mohd Rizwan Khan, Prof Naima Khatoon and Prof Wasim Ahmad will extend the vote of thanks.
