Seven Faculty Members and an alumnus of Central University of Punjab features in ‘Stanford’s top International Scientist List’

 

Bathinda: Seven faculty members and an alumnus of the Central University of Punjab, Bathinda (CUPB) have got featured in the list of top international scientists “Updated Science-wide Database of Stanford Citation Indicators” released by Stanford University, USA and published by Elsevier BV on 19th October, 2021. The selection for this ‘updated science-wide database’ was based on top 1,00,000 scientists or scientists with percentile rank of 2% and above that provided standardized information on citation, h-index, co-authorship adjusted hm-index, citation to papers, and fulfilled other parameters.

This database has been prepared by the research group of Dr. Jeroen Baas (Elzevier B.V.), Dr. Kevin Boyack (SciTech Strategies, Inc., USA), and Dr. Jon P.A. Loannidis (Stanford University, USA). The creators of this database have classified top scientists of the world in 22 different fields and 176 subfields. The research group published two different datasets to recognize the top scientists who have made outstanding research contribution in the year 2020 and the international scientists who have done exceptional research work during their career.

The seven faculty members of the Central University of Punjab who have been included in this database for their outstanding research work in the year 2020 are Prof. Vinod Kumar Garg (Dept. of Environmental Science and Technology), Dr. Shashank Kumar (Dept. of Biochemistry), Dr. Ashok Kumar (Dept. of Physics), Dr. Nasir Salam (Dept. of Microbiology), Prof. Raj Kumar (Dept. of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Natural Products), Dr. Vikas Jaitak (Dept. of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Natural Products), and Dr. Suresh Thareja (Dept. of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Natural Products). Apart from this, an alumnus of the Central University of Punjab Dr. Anil Arya (who has completed his Ph.D. in Physics from CUPB) has also made his mark in this list. The above scientists have been enlisted in this database for their contribution in the discipline of Environment Sciences; Oncology & Carcinogenesis; General Physics; General & Internal Medicine; and Medicinal & Biomolecular Chemistry.

Among them, Prof. Vinod Kumar Garg from CUPB Dept. of Environmental Science and Technology who got featured in Stanford’s top 2% scientist list published by ‘PLOS Biology’ journal in the year 2020 also shines in the prestigious ‘top international scientists list’ of 2021 who have made remarkable contributions in their discipline throughout their career.

Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, the Vice Chancellor, congratulated CUPB Scientists for bringing laurels to the university with their outstanding research work. He stated that this achievement is not only the reflection of the high-quality research work conducted at CUPB, but this database also brings forward the fact that the faculty members of this university have competencies to conduct research at par with global scientific community. He added, these rankings have motivated the entire scientific fraternity of CUPB to set further high records in the field of education and research and contribute to makr this university recognized as a premier Higher Education Institution at national and international level.
