SFL convenes commencement ceremony online and offline

Peking: On June 29, the School of Foreign Languages Commencement Ceremony was held both online and offline. Around 50 graduating students who have returned to the campus attended the ceremony physically while more than 300 students who did not return joined the ceremony through the live broadcast.

At the beginning of the ceremony, Li Shujing from the School of Foreign Languages (SFL) announced the list of outstanding graduates in 2020. She hoped the Class of 2020 would devote their passion, ambition, and volition to building a better future.

In the following section, representatives of graduates, alumni, and faculty members gave speeches respectively.

Huang Yongheng, who comes from Hubei province, recalled her experiences during the pandemic. Although the unexpected outbreak of COVID-19 drastically changed her plans for the last semester at Peking University, she still believed that one with hope can achieve anything through ceaseless efforts. Wei Ziyi and Men Xuejie stressed the importance of language learning by recounting their experiences in SFL.

Yu Minhong, who enrolled in SFL in 1980 and is now chairman of New Oriental Education & Technology Group, expressed his wishes to the graduates online. He shared his study experiences in SFL to the graduates and recalled the warm help that he had received from the students and teachers at Peking University.

After that, Ning Qi, dean of SFL, expressed her congratulations to all graduates. She recalled the stories of the teachers and students in SFL who shared anti-pandemic knowledge by translating documents for countering COVID-19. Meanwhile, she talked about the contributions of SFL faculty to research and public services during the COVID-19 outbreak. She encouraged graduates to keep rising to whatever challenges in life and constantly chase their dreams.
