Shri Ram College of Commerce Commenced a Memorial Debate in Honour of Late Shri Arun Jaitley
A platform to showcase the best talent of debaters and budding thought leaders at national level
In memory of Padma Vibhushan Late Shri Arun Jaitley (1952-2019), former Union Minister of Finance and Minister of Corporate Affairs, Government of India, the most eminent alumnus of Shri Ram College of Commerce and one of India’s most respected lawmakers, Shri Ram College of Commerce has commenced “Arun Jaitley Memorial Debate” on the 25th of April 2023. The multi-stage national event envisaged as an annual debating tradition honoured the legacy of Late Shri Arun Jaitley, one of India’s finest orator and debater, and offer a unique debating platform to showcase the best talent of debaters and budding thought leaders engaging in valuable exchange of ideas. The debate also acted as an idea, thought, and policy forum exploring multitude of perspectives on contemporary issues.
The Inaugural Edition of Arun Jaitley Memorial Debate was launched in the 100 Years Centenary of the University of Delhi, celebrated in the 75th Year of Independence Celebrations: Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and India’s G20 Presidency. The Preliminary Round of the AJMD began on April 3, 2023 with invitational participation of debate teams from colleges across the country. From these teams, twenty were selected for the Semi-Finals scheduled for April 25, 2023 and the finals were scheduled for Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at the Shridhar Shriram Auditorium of the College.
The 1st Arun Jaitley Memorial Debate was held in two stages. Stage One included the debate session and Stage Two was the Award Ceremony. Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, Hon’ble Vice President of India graced the Award Ceremony as the Distinguished Chief Guest for the 1st Arun Jaitley Memorial Debate. Prof. Yogesh Singh, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, University of Delhi was the Guest of Honour for the Award Ceremony. Smt. Sangeeta Jaitley, spouse of Late Shri Arun Jaitley, and Shri Ajay S. Shriram, Chairman, SRCC Governing Body also graced the entire event with their distinguished presence.
The event was attended by Members of the SRCC Governing Body, Senior functionaries of the University of Delhi, eminent academicians, faculty members and students.
