SIA-India and IndUS Tech Councilare launching the Perspectives on Regulatory Issues in Strategic Markets (PRISM) 2024
New Delhi : As part of their collaboration, SIA-India and IndUS Tech Council are launching the Perspectives on Regulatory Issues in Strategic Markets (PRISM) 2024 webinar series to discuss complex regulatory challenges in defence, space, and dual-use technologies offering a platform for industry stakeholders to navigate evolving regulations and explore new avenues for innovation and collaboration. The inaugural session, “U.S.-India Export Controls Dialogue: Bridging Innovation,” will be held on 18 November 2024. This webinar aims to offer key insights into navigating export controls in defense, space, and dual-use technologies, while exploring challenges and opportunities within critical U.S.-India partnerships. SIA-India and IndUS Tech Council have continued their strong partnership with the signing of an MoU in June 2024, focusing on fostering growth in the B2B space and defense sectors in both India and the U.S.
“The recent discussions between U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on 1st October 2024, along with their focus on emerging technologies, underscore the growing importance of U.S.-India collaboration. As we move forward with the PRISM 2024 series, these efforts align with our goals to navigate export controls and drive innovation, furthering the strategic partnership between the two nations.” Kriti Upadhayay, Founder, IndUS Tech Council
“The PRISM 2024 series will bring together a diverse group of stakeholders, including startups, think tanks, businesses, investors, and government officials, to address export control regimes in various markets, such as Australia, Japan, France, Germany, and the U.S. Many of these critical issues will be discussed during DefSat 2025, scheduled to take place from January 8-10, 2025, in New Delhi. The series will culminate in a multinational-focused event at the India Space Congress 2025, an annual event organized by SIA-India to foster space innovation and collaboration, happening from June 25-27, 2025.” Anil Prakash, DG, SIA-India
The first webinar 1.0 comes at a crucial time following recent amendments by the U.S. Department of Commerce aimed at easing restrictions on space-related items. This change, which reclassifies many space-related products, including commercial satellites, from the U.S. Munitions List to the Commerce Control List, opens up new opportunities for U.S.-India cooperation in space.
The session will focus on key topics such as ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations), SCOMET, EAR (Export Administration Regulations), and CFIUS (Committee on Foreign Investment in the U.S.), providing legal insights, startup success stories, and strategic implications of U.S.-India technological cooperation. Additionally, attendees will receive a guide on U.S.-India export control regulations and a directory of key resources for startups.
