On 20-23 September, 2022, School of Space and Information Technologies hosts the VI International Conference, titled Informatization of Education and E-Learning Methodology: Digital Technologies in Education.

The purpose of the conference is to search for new approaches to education, including the development of promising digital learning environments and ecosystems which are able to analyze students’ digital footprints.

“The introduction of digital technologies in education is a much more difficult task than it seems at first glance. Although this process has been going on for some time, the pandemic has shown that it is impossible to conduct classes remotely without using special methods with the same effect as before. The task of the conference participants is to develop and test new approaches. This work should be done,” said Ruslan Baryshev, SibFU vice-rector for research.

Experts from Russia, Belarus, Bulgaria, Cyprus, and China discuss topical issues facing educational organizations today due to the rapid development of the mutual influence of digital technologies, economics, and education.

“We are proud that our conference is of interest not only among Russian, but also international specialists. It is important that the participants both make presentations and carry out analytical work. Thanks to this, the conference becomes especially useful for teachers and lecturers,” said Denis Kapulin, acting director of the School of Space and Information Technologies.

Much attention was paid to the development of STEM education. Gregory Makridis, coordinator of STEM projects, President of the Cyprus Mathematical Community, shared his experience of implementing this approach in world universities with colleagues.

“This training system involves the work of small groups on practical projects, the implementation of which necessarily requires the use of knowledge from several disciplines. This approach is applicable to both natural sciences and humanities disciplines,” said Gregory Makridis in his speech.

In their turn, SibFU specialists presented a number of studies devoted to the analysis of educational data and the prediction of educational results. Mikhail Noskov and Yulia Weinstein, professors of the School of Space and Information Technologies, mentioned the need to make a program that will be able to evaluate and predict students’ academic achievement.

“The national education system is faced with the task of developing a methodology for calculating the risk of academic failure of education and identifying a cluster of students with a high degree of such risk. Obviously, the earlier such a cluster can be identified in the course of studying the discipline, the more timely it is possible to start individual work with each student in order to take measures to prevent academic failure and subsequent dropout of students,” noted the authors of the research.

The organizers of the conference are Siberian Federal University, Institute of Cybernetics and Educational Informatics Federal Research Center Informatics and Management, Federal Research Center for Informatics and Management of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Pitirim Sorokin Syktyvkar State University. The conference is held with the financial support of the Krasnoyarsk Regional Fund for the Support of Scientific and Technical Activities.
