Siberian Federal University: SibFU opens Physics and Mathematics Boarding School

On 1 September 2021, a physics and mathematics boarding school was opened at Siberian Federal University, where students of 10-11 grades will study sciences in depth. This year, 200 schoolchildren entered the PMS, all of them passed the competitive selection.

The schoolchildren came from different places: Krasnoyarsk Territory and the Irkutsk Region, Nizhny Novgorod Region, Belgorod Region, Novosibirsk Region, Tomsk Region, as well as the Republics of Bashkortostan, Buryatia and Khakassia.

A decade ago, on 1 September 2011, physical and mathematical classes (PMC) of Siberian Federal University were opened in Krasnoyarsk on the basis of three educational institutions. It was a joint project of the Government of Krasnoyarsk Territory and Siberian Federal University. During the period of the project, about 600 high school students were trained at SibFU PMC. Currently, the university has received a license to implement the educational program of secondary comprehensive education. The building of the boarding school has all the necessary conditions for the education of 400 and the residence of 264 nonresident students.

The students will study for two years for free. The students will be taught by teachers and educators from among the teaching staff of Siberian Federal University 113 —specialists in total.

Governor of Krasnoyarsk Territory Aleksander Uss, Minister of Education Svetlana Makovskaya, Rector of SibFU Maksim Rumiantsev, representatives of the administration, strategic and industrial partners of the educational project took part in the Day of Knowledge. Parents could watch the festive event online.

In her welcoming speech, director of the PMS Elena Yengurazova notes: “The idea that was born more than ten years ago has come true. From scattered special classes, we have come to a full-fledged school at a leading university”.

“This large-scale educational project was a joint effort. Thanks to the persistence and perseverance of like-minded people, a special place that unites talented people has appeared at the university. I know that all of you have great prospects and I wish your dreams come true,” said SibFU rector Maksim Rumiantsev to the guests of the ceremony.

Alexander Uss, governor of Krasnoyarsk Territory: “I am sincerely glad to be a participant in this historic event. The idea, which was born more than ten years ago, has come true. From scattered special classes, we came to a full-fledged school at a leading university. I am sure that the school will become a kind of university among the Krasnoyarsk schools. A special place where the spirit of creativity reigns, where talented and gifted children study, where there are all conditions for development both technical and intellectual.”

Every year, the 5 best students of the physics and mathematics school receive a monthly scholarship from M.F. Reshetnev Information Satellite Systems, a partner of Siberian Federal University. The best first-year students from among the graduates of PMC SibFU are awarded an increased academic scholarship.
