Siberian Federal University: SibFU professor — laureate of the Professor of the 2021 prize
Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Science, professor of Siberian Federal University, head of the Department of Theoretical Physics and Wave Phenomena at the School of Engineering Physics and Radioelectronics Sergey Ovchinnikov has become a laureate of the Professor of the Year 2021 national prize.
The award ceremony took place on 28 September 2021 within the framework of the Science and Technology of the XXI Century: Trends and Prospects professors forum.
The Russian professors meeting annually chooses the best professors, deans and rectors of universities who have distinguished themselves by outstanding scientific results in the field of education and science. The main goal of the award is to preserve and further develop the scientific potential of Russian science and higher education, to stimulate scientific and technological development and to encourage outstanding scientific and pedagogical workers.
The expert jury evaluated the professor’s contribution to the development of their university, his reputation, personal achievements, assessment of interaction with the state, business, scientific and expert community. Other criteria include international cooperation, digitalization and innovation at the university, and media activity.
Sergey Ovchinnikov has been teaching at the university for about 40 years; among his students, there are 29 candidates and 7 doctors of sciences. In addition, this year, a joint monograph of the professor and American scientists was published by Oxford University Press.

This is exactly what the professor is supposed to do. Therefore, I am glad to receive the award, for me, it is an honour. I am grateful to the head of the section of physical and mathematical sciences of the Professors Meeting for the opportunity to speak at the Forum and the management of Siberian Federal University for support in the nomination. I am full of creative strength, I continue to work and, I hope, will bring up more doctors of science.”
