SKKU: SAIHST Professor Dan-Bi Kang Won the L’Oréal Korea-UNESCO For Women in Science Awards 2021
SAIHST professor Dan-Bi Kang won the L’Oréal Korea-UNESCO For Women in Science Awards 2021, which was hosted by the Women’s Bioscience Forum (President In-Hee Mook) and was sponsored by L’Oréal Korea (CEO Christian Marcos) and Korean National Commission for UNESCO (Secretary-General Kyung-Koo Han). The award ceremony was held at Seoul Wave Art Center on June 15 (Tue).
Prof. Kang won the award at the fellowship sector which is given to talented young women researchers with outstanding potential. To the award winners, certificate and endowment of 5 million KRW will be provided.
Prof. Kang has continuously conducted research to combine and utilize multi-dimensional data such as patients survey, measurement data, health and medical big data. Additionally, she has conducted various studies to improve patients’ quality of life and alleviate symptoms. Prof. Kang said, “I wouldn’t be able to be here without my advisor, Professor Ju-Hee Cho and renowned professors at Samsung Medical Center.”
The L’Oréal Korea-UNESCO For Women in Science Awards are presented every year to outstanding women scientists since 2002. This event was co-organized by the Korean National Commission for UNESCO and the Women’s Bioscience Forum in order to support women scientists in Korea. They have awarded a total of 84 winners for over the past 20 years.
The L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science have two sectors: Academic Development award and Fellowship award. The Academic Development award finds and rewards women scientists who have contributed to the development of science and technology, and encourage them to boost morale and advance outstanding women talents into the science and technology field. Fellowship award supports promising women scientists to foster the female leaders who will play a pivotal role in the Korean scientific community in the future.
