SKUAST-J hosts webinar on “Farmer Producer Organisations towards doubling Farmers Income”
Jammu: Division of Agricultural Economics & Agri Business Management (AEABM) and Agribusiness Incubator, SKUAST-Jammu today organized a webinar “Farmer Producer Organisations towards doubling Farmers Income.”
Over 300 registrations were received for the webinar across the country which includes Scientists, line department officers, students and farmers.
The event was held under the chairmanship of the varsity Vice Chancellor Prof. J.P. Sharma to discuss the current status of Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) in Jammu region, their legal awareness, constraints and solutions in promoting supporting ecosystems for FPOs to pave a way to doubling the farmers’ income.
Prof. J.P. Sharma, the Chief Guest of the webinar, digitally inaugurated the programme.
Dr. Jyoti Kachroo, Prof. & Head, AEABM and I/c Agri Business Incubator, SKUAST-Jammu briefed the participants about the importance of FPOs in entrepreneurship development and its potential in doubling the farmers income.
Director Extension SKUAST-Jammu, Prof. S.K. Gupta said that FPOs are the need of the hour for empowering farmers of Jammu region. He further reiterated that KVKs of SKUAST-Jammu are continuously motivating farmers of the Jammu region to opt for FPOs for their socio-economic upliftment.
Dr. Jyoti Kachroo delivered PowerPoint presentation on “Opportunities of FPOs in Jammu and Overview of RKVY-RAFTAAR scheme for awareness of members of FPOs”.
Puneet Singh Thind, National Director, Vegetable Growers Association of India delivered virtual presentation on “Role of FPOS in Agribusiness”.
Anamika, DGM, NABARD Jammu, presented NABARD schemes for the FPOs, their status and various success and failure stories in Union Territory of Jammu Kashmir and other states of India during the webinar.
K.K. Sharma, Agricultural Economist discussed on FPOs formulation and its role in development activities of Jammu.
R.K Srivastava, CGM, NABARD, Jammu and Guest of Honour, in his remarks, presented overview of FPOs and impressed upon the capacity building of farmers for sustainable agriculture development by formulating FPOs.
Earlier, Dr. R.K. Gupta, Director Research and Convener of the webinar, delivered the welcome address. He highlighted the focus areas to be covered during the webinar.
