Smartchem Technologies in association with NDRF conducts training and mock drill for emergency preparedness

Srikakulam : Smartchem Technologies Limited (STL), a subsidiary of Deepak Fertilisers and Petrochemicals Corporation Limited (DFPCL), which is a trusted chemicals and fertiliser manufacturer in India, organised a training program for their employees at their premises in Ponnda. The activity was done in association with National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).

 

STL is committed to employee health and safety while ensuring the wellbeing of the local community. The objective of the training was to prepare the employees for unforeseen predicaments like chemical fire / accidents handling and rescue operations during emergency. The training was conducted with the help of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), 10th Battalion, Visakhapatnam.

 

The detailed training was conducted by the NDRF team led by Mr. Susanta Kumar Behera, who demonstrated measures that one needs to take in case of chemical leaks or accidents. The employees nominated for the training were given detailed lessons on various kinds of rescue operations for different industrial scenarios and first aid methods. Later in the afternoon, a mock drill was declared by the Dy. Chief Inspector of Factories, Srikakulam giving the employees a practical situation of an ammonia leak from a tanker. After the drill, a review gave the employees an overview of the drill.

 

Talking about the initiative Srikakulam Unit Head Mr. PCS Rao said, “We would like to thank the entire team of NDRF 10th Battalion, Visakhapatnam, who took so much time out for our employees and taught them some really valuable lifesaving lessons. We have, in the past, received a lot of accolades and appreciation for taking care of the health and safety standards and procedures. We are proud of our health and safety records, and capability in handling hazardous, toxic and inflammable chemicals. However, we are always striving to better ourselves and ensure that our employees are safe and healthy. Initiatives like these give the employees a sense of safety and they trust us.”

 

Deputy Chief Inspector of Factories, Mr. GVS Narayana and Inspector of Factories, Mr. P Chinnarao were present during the mockdrill and subsequent review and congratulated Smartchem Technologies Limited for taking up this thoughtful initiative. They also bestowed certificates to the participating employees.
