Somaiya Sports Academy, an initiative of Somaiya Vidyavihar hosted for the second time a unique skating relay that is conducted across the world
Mumbai: Somaiya Sports Academy, an initiative of Somaiya Vidyavihar hosted for the second time a unique skating relay which witnessed the participation of inline skaters cross the world.
The skating rink, the only one in Mumbai which follows specifications as per national tournament requirements, is part of the efforts of Somaiya Sports Academy to create affordable sports infrastructure facilities for youth in Mumbai. The skating bank is 200 metres inner oval and approximately 240 metres square on the outer perimeter. The width of the track is 7 metres, of which 6.5 metres is usable.
The event, part of a global roller skating relay, began at 6:30 pm and continued till 10:30 pm on Saturday 1st June 2019. The global charitable initiative had skaters across the world skating in a continuous relay. Donations from individuals and organisations on kilometres skated will benefit UNICEF. Children from the age of 5, recreational and fun skaters, professional teams, participants and champions participated for the event.
