Somaiya Vidyavihar University signs MoU in collaboration with the Preah Sihanouk Rāja Buddhist University

Mumbai : Preah Sihanouk Rāja Buddhist University (SBU), Cambodia and Somaiya Vidyavihar University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), with the purpose of creating an academic platform for young students and faculty, and to develop the capacity to support the overall development of a quality and modern system of education. The activities covered by the MoU include conducting cross-institutional research, faculty exchanges, and special projects in various disciplines.

Preah Sihanouk Rāja Buddhist University expressed gratitude to the Embassy of India and Somaiya Vidyavihar University for their initiative in signing the MoU, and stated that the cooperation would benefit young Buddhist Monks, students, and staff in their learning and research. In his remarks, Dr. Nandkumar Gilke, Registrar, Somaiya Vidyavihar University, Mumbai, emphasised that the purpose of the MoU is to strengthen the bonds between the two institutions, further their academic, social, and cultural objectives, and promote collaboration among faculty, staff, students, and academicians.

Both organisations would collaborate and coordinate in promoting research, disseminating knowledge, and capacity building. This MoU would create favourable conditions for students to study and contribute to the community while preparing for future careers, and Somaiya Vidyavihar University also offered online courses in English language, Pali, and Sanskrit, as well as scholarships and summer camp workshops for students in various fields.

Rajasekharan Pillai, Vice Chancellor, Somaiya Vidyavihar University, says, “The University looks forward to the early execution of the MoU signed with Preah Sihanouk Raja Buddhist University, Cambodia. This partnership will not only strengthen the academic and cultural bonds between India and Cambodia, but it will also provide unique opportunities for students and faculty to engage in cross-institutional research, exchange programs, and special projects that will support the overall development of a modern system of education. I believe this MoU signing marks the beginning of a fruitful collaboration that will benefit both institutions and contribute to the advancement of knowledge and understanding across borders.”
