SPbPU and Nanjing University of Science and Technology Forge Collaboration Agreement

President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jingping have declared 2024 and 2025 the «Years of Culture between Russia and China». The leaders intend to continue expanding cooperation in science and education. May 23, Polytechnic University was visited by a representative delegation of Nanjing University of Science and Technology, one of the leading institutions of higher education in China, winner of the award «TOP-10 universities in Jiangsu Province», headed by Rector Fu Mengyin.

For Jiangsu Polytechnic University, Jiangsu Province is one of the key regions in terms of developing scientific and educational cooperation. Taking into account the high research, innovation and production potential of this province, in 2022 Polytechnic opened an International Office in Jiangsu Research Institute of Industrial Technology of Nanjing, which operates with the support of the National Innovation Center of Excellence — Yangtze Delta.

The acquaintance with the university representatives took place in the fall of 2023 in Nanjing in the framework of the «Conference of Russian-Chinese Innovation Cooperation in Higher Technical Education, University Research and Transfer of Scientific Achievements to Industry, Nanjing, 2023». Already then, the main areas of cooperation were outlined, which the universities discussed during NUNT’s visit to SPbPU this spring.

In April 2024, a delegation from NUNT at a working meeting with representatives of specialized institutes and international services identified the priority areas for future joint projects: automation, additive technologies and robotics, and agreed to begin work by designing joint programs in these areas.

Andrei Rudskoi, Rector of SPbPU, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, welcomed the colleagues and noted: Cooperation with Nanjing University of Science and Technology opens unique opportunities for us to develop scientific and educational cooperation and innovation transfer. We strive to create a sustainable relationship that allows us to overcome borders together and reach new heights in the field of higher technical education and scientific research. Polytechnic has more than 70 permanent partners in China, and I would like Nanjing University to join this list. Today, by signing the agreement, we are laying the foundation for a strong and long-term friendship and cooperation between our universities.

The Chinese colleagues were given a tour of the SPbPU History Museum, the famous White Hall and the Fundamental Library. The delegation also visited the advanced high-tech laboratories of our university, including Technopolis Polytechnic, the Laboratory of Lightweight Materials and Structures, the Microelectronics Laboratory (Integrated Circuit Design Center), and the Polytechnic Supercomputer Center.

Based on the friendly dialog between our heads of state, I hope we can also form productive cooperation between our universities. Joint educational programs, scientific projects and research — we strive that through our cooperation students, young scientists and teachers can share experiences, move on the path of open scientific dialogue for the development and prosperity of both countries. We are delighted that one of the leading technical universities in Russia with a 125-year history will become our partner, shared Fu Mengying, Rector of Nanjing University of Science and Technology.
